Custom 600L Ute Skid Unit for Council Weed Control

The job

The crew were running two separate setups: a small spot-spray tank for footpaths and a bigger trailer unit for roadsides. Hitching and unhitching the trailer was costing them the best part of an hour a day, and the spot tank had no agitation, so mixes were settling out before the tank was empty.

They wanted one unit that could do both jobs, drop into the tray of a dual-cab, and be lifted out by two people when the ute was needed for something else.

What we built

• 600L baffled poly tank on a hot-dip galvanised skid frame, sized to clear the wheel arches
• Honda-powered diaphragm pump with mechanical agitation plumbed back into the tank
• Twin hose reels — 60m of 3/8” for spot work, 30m of 1/2” for the heavy stuff
• Boomless nozzle bar on a breakaway mount, giving roughly 8 metres of coverage
• Fresh water rinse tank and hand wash mounted on the frame
• Forklift pockets and lifting eyes so it comes out in one piece

The tricky bit

Tray length was the constraint. Getting both reels, the pump and the rinse tank in without blocking access to the tank lid meant laying the whole thing out in the workshop first and moving things around until it worked for the operator, not just on paper. We ended up rotating the pump 90 degrees and dropping the second reel below the first.

The result

One unit, one setup, and no trailer. Pressure and flow were tested against the nozzle charts before it left the workshop, and we ran the crew through servicing and winter shutdown on handover.
